Narrative Poll Outcome

The Winner is...

• The man doesnt give enough into the releatioship so he gets the idea to propose and the story will be told throughout the video with little narratives at the start and end of the video just to make it feel like a more relatable video. She will turn down the offer of marrage because i want a little controversy just to liven the video up a little.

This was the one narrative that the majority of people said they liked and so did one of my media teachers  She also said that it would be the most easiest narrative to get into a three minute video without going to far and going off the edge with a story. but to make it the narrative that i want for the video it needs to be developed further than the description i gave above because that doesn't give enough information of what will happen throughout the video. The other narratives was just too much to cram into a short song and so the audience would not have felt the narrative like they needs to.

Narrative ideas for my music video

Unlike the original video, i intend to have a narrative for the music video i will be making of the One Republic song.

Ideas i have been considering to use:

• The man is the one who feels the relationship needs more putting into it but what he doesnt realise is that the woman is having an affair with his brother and the man opens up to his friends taking the sterotypical female role.

• An abbusive relationship turns sour and the woman decides to act but it takes a turn for the worst and she gets arrested for her boyfriends actions.

• A mans wife is having a baby and he is finding it hard to cope with the situation so he goes into a depressive state and starts drinking and becomes suicidal but his wife intervines and convinces him to become the father he is meant to be but they lose the baby just as he is prepared to become a father.

OneRepublic - Love Runs Out

This is the original video for the song i intend to do for my coursework portfolio. I personally do not think it gives the song the justice it deserves because there is no narrative, making it an abstract music video. The conventions do follow the genre of the song. for example the editing in the video does match the song in most parts but in certain parts when the beat becomes much faster, (2:50) essentially the chorus of the song, the editing still stays at the slow pace as the rest of the song whereas i would use editing to create much faster edits to make the video develop and become much more interesting for the watcher. It does follow some conventions though. The main artist is lip-syncing to the song for all of the song, there is backing-dancers, the mise-en-scene does follow the genre but more vibrant colours could be used to make the video have a statement. The lyrics of the song are about time running out on love in a relationship and how you have to do things in the moment or atleast that is what it coveys to me. The mise-en-scene is really quite strange for what the video is actually about because there is african children and tribe people playing the guitar whilst the main artists are tapping a tamberine or banging a drum. This would be an abstract video, whereas i am going to create a narrative for the video aswell as having abstract ideas also.
