Genre Conventions of One Rupublic - Love Runs Out

The song i chose to make a music video for is 'Love runs out' by One Republic. One Republic is an alternative/indie pop artist so my music video therefore must be alternative because it has to match the song.

The common conventions of this type of music is:

• You will usually see a guitar or some other rock instrument played throughout the videos.
• The edits will be quite speedy with some exceptions and the song will be quick in beats.
• dark clothing
• lighting will be dimmed or quite dark
• there will be little dancing but when there is dancing it will be in groups of spontaneous.
• you will see lip syncing

Camera Work that i like

This Video is a TV show trailer but the camera work that it uses i find really cinematic and i would like to try and replicate some of the camera shots, angles, tracks used in this trailer. For Example i like the track shot that has had some reverse effect put onto it when the male is walking down a corridor. I also like the close ups and other numerous angels used in the video. This also has a similar song in the trailer that is of the same genre as mine, so i can see how images can match the edits and the beats used in the video. I particularly liked the shots that was used for each individual character where they have a voice over but the shots go from colour to black and white, it seemed to change the mood of the upbeat video and this is something i wish to have in my music video because the video takes a drastic turn of events towards the end of the video but the song is still quite upbeat. I will use this video as a template for camera shots i can try and attempt to use within my music video.

Shots used in the video:

This uses a track shot in slow motion to match the beat of the song and the edits are very fast between each clip.

This clip uses an overlay of two images, one of new york city and another of the two males. This makes the shot look quite sleek and dramatic.

This is part of the really fast paced zooms and quick edits which gives a really strange but enjoyable effect because it is just edits of new york that closer and closer into the city of new york and to do this in the way that they did i find very interesting because they could of just used a simple zoom but they matched the beat of the song and used around five different shots of new york.

This is the set of clips which change from colour to black and white. each clip for each character is around 3 seconds so its quite slow for an edit but the flash edit change to black and white, in a way, speeds up the shot.

This is the zoom that is reversed and then unreversed. This is the shot i want to really get into my video because i think it would work really well in my music video to match the beat of the song.

This is a quick zoom towards the lift doors that are closing at the end of the video, this i think gives the video closure and my video needs to be finished quite quickly because the song stops quite quickly in the last few seconds so a quick zoom towards something would fit in quite well into my music video at the end.

The Winner is...

• The man doesnt give enough into the releatioship so he gets the idea to propose and the story will be told throughout the video with little narratives at the start and end of the video just to make it feel like a more relatable video. She will turn down the offer of marrage because i want a little controversy just to liven the video up a little.

This was the one narrative that the majority of people said they liked and so did one of my media teachers  She also said that it would be the most easiest narrative to get into a three minute video without going to far and going off the edge with a story. but to make it the narrative that i want for the video it needs to be developed further than the description i gave above because that doesn't give enough information of what will happen throughout the video. The other narratives was just too much to cram into a short song and so the audience would not have felt the narrative like they needs to.
